My First Breath of Life was not my Own

Now  that the month’s Blog 30 Challenge is complete this last qualifying blog post is to honor my Dad. If anyone was ever up for any kind of challenge at all it was my father. True my mom taught me empathy and compassion.  And  that works like velvet to  cover the shield of protection that my dad taught me to use for those less fortunate than me. But my Dad molded the shield.

Mom was 16 and Dad was 21 when I was born. Mom was a little cheerleader with way too much enthusiasm and Dad was taught to do the right thing.  Her being little and me being the first born was the first challenge.

On a very cold January morning I was born in a medical clinic in a little town in Montana. Because of my Mom’s small size, I had a hard time being born.   I was born not breathing because of the stress. The doctor came out from the room to tell my 21 year old Dad that I would not live. My dad took immediate action. “Boy or girl does not matter” he said ” I am going to make this right”

He came in and picked me up and he breathed a little forcefully  into me  to get me to start breathing. He knew to do this from being a cattle rancher. That is what we sometimes have to do to get calves to start their own lives.

That action did  get me to breath.  But I had been without air for about four minutes. My parents would later learn that some of the motor cells in my brain that operate the right side of my body had been destroyed. So now the challenge was to get me to be able to  walk, talk, and move somewhat like the other kids do.

Dad stepped up every time and did all he had to do to help me believe I could choose how I wanted to live. Those conversations I remember well. Not once did my Dad say or do anything less than help me believe in myself.

Now it is 50 years gone by. The belief he put in me helped me graduate top of my class at Univ. of Texas, made it possible for me to give a talk at a national medical conference,  allowed me to garner a couple leadership awards along the way too.

But the last few years my Dad’s words had dimmed a bit.  I have battled depression for the last seven years and only just the last six months have I started to feel the power of my father’s voice urging me to try harder.

I am not too sure what prompted other people to take up the  Blog 30 Challenge. For me I needed this to complete something ONCE that I had committed to do.

As I see  it Jeanette  and Connie have probably saved my life only by offering a challenge.  By doing this;  completing this;  I can feel the Spirit  Warrior in me rising up from a long slumber. Taking this across the finish line  means so much to me. It’s time to rock the house!!

Thanks Dad

I made it Happen

And The Winners ARE:

Some of my new friends and I have been blogging constantly for the month of June in one of those insane “Take Action” Blog challenges.  Maybe the day we all signed up there wasn’t enough air to breath.  Maybe that caused us to think so optimistically that we could write like this.

Al I know is that I have Jeanettte Cates and Connie Green to thank for turning my life upside down for a month. I haven’t partied, I blogged. I haven’t dated, I blogged. I  barely kept my house up, I blogged!!! Oh wait,  I don’t drink and choose not to date right now so I guess I am ahead.

Thse ae just some of the blogs that I followed of the over 200 air depraved spirits that signed up for the challenge.  Forgive me to the so many that I did not get to meet. I would have but there was this deadline to cover.

Stop by and say hello to some of my new friends.  Now that the blog challenge is over I will be asking who is up for JV plans or maybe just a  picnic.  We all come away winners. Stand Tall !

There is one more blog to complete this challenge.  And it will be to honor my Dad who  taught me how to live and how to give.

Holistic Healing

Is Time a Valuable Net Worth Asset?

Property will come and go in our lives.  Homes… well houses anyway can be bought and sold as we choose. They are replaceable, (the houses not  the homes).  Any other type of property can also be replaced on a whim.  One thing that should be more valuable to us even more than diamonds  is our time.  We cannot buy more time like we can by  carbon credits. We cannot trade any thing of real value for even one second of time.

Even knowing this we find ourselves in a  community that does not give  a rip about the value of time.  People seem  to believe it is okay  to  be late for whatever appointment that needs to be attended. Become too late for too many times and you soon find that people hold no value in anything you might say you can do for them or with them.

Set yourself apart from the  trundling crowd.  Show up early for the appointments that you have with people.  Planning your activities so that you can honor this commitment to yourself is valuable beyond reason. When you show up early or at the very least on time you convey to the attending members of the appointment that you consider their time to be valuable since you do not waste it.   There becomes a mental shift from them to you that they can believe in you.  I challenge you to do this and watch your own value among your peers rise accordingly.

Becoming an Overnight Success Takes too Long

People  give up too quickly or else they do not follow the WayPoints that are set  in front of them.   The book Acres of Diamonds tell of  the farmer who set out to  find his fortune  and the conclusion makes you  begin to look closely at all that is happening in your own life.

In watching how other people justify their own existence I observe that  many want success handed to them. Theirs is a world of instant food,  instant entertainment, instant information, instant pain relief. So why wouldn’t instant success be any different?

Well the instant food came about after 60 years of tweaking the idea of consistent action being done with standardized  food qualities. Instant entertainment has moved from the big city stage, to the black and white TVs and LP records to color Flat screens to the instant information we get on the  little gizmo we hold in our hand that’s even smaller than an apple. But that took about 500 years. The instant pain relief started back about 4000 years from starting with using herbal potions to  the pills we take now that many are still related to  the thousands of years old potions f not by extract then by chemical similarity.

So we still have to follow natural laws that direct that we must invest ourselves into something before we can expect success  from its application. Success at any endeavor requires this investment. Do not expect that success without the investment.
