Are your Limiting Beliefs of Money Limiting your Net Worth?

What kind of ideas are you pulling along concerning your ideas about Net Worth? Do the attitudes that your parents had about money now direct your thought patterns for your own financial portfolio? Did you learn good habits about saving, spending and being a good steward of your money? Or do you find yourself frustrated and unable to break through to begin to acquire and keep a solid net worth?

Perhaps it is a good idea to clean up the limiting beliefs that hold back your dreams of a secure future. To find out where you are on your attitudes toward money ask yourself some of the following questions:

  • What does money really mean to you? A form of exchange for services, ability to bless more people, or just ameasuring stick to decide who is the biggest dog in the hunt?
  • How do you feel about money? Make you anxious, excited, fearful, hopeful?
  • If you suddenly were without money… how would you feel then? Stuck, helpless, more fearful, or optimistic for the abltiy to begin again and do it better this time?

I have studied the book Secrets of a Millionaire Mind by T Harv Ecker and it has helped me unravel the limiting beliefs I had. Check out Millionaire Mind for yourself to see if it does the same for you.

Setting the Mark

In setting out to improve your net worth there needs to be a finish line in mind. Something specific, something with either numbers or an address or a signed contract the makes you know you have achieved the goal. Yes there is vast amounts of “feel good” philosophy that tells us life is a journey to be savored. To me it is much wiser to set acourse just as the catian of a sailor sets course for the next harbor. He is notr constantly sailing about on the sea.

You will find that those who have their history written about and followed after are the people who focused on a mark as a goal and they were tenacious in their actions toward accomplishing it; almost to a fault.

Olympic athletes train constantly. Many times their training is for many more hours than most of us put into our daily work. For years they will push their muscles to limits and press even harder. All of this for a short minute against other top athletes to determine who has become the better athlete. Winning the gold is everything to them.

Titans of vast worth, men and women alike all offer the same answer to the question: How do you become worth so much? The answer is always: “I set my mind to accomplish a certain goal and I did not let go of that until it was in my hands.”

The steps you can take right now to begin to set the mark for your own net worth is to make it clear to yourself and those that depend on you what it is you truly want. If you have a family it is imperative that you include them in the planning part of this journey.

While it feels incredible to to believe that you will be a millionaire for example, you will get more traction if you set that as a long term 10 to 15 year goal but also set up goals for yourself that start you on the path to millionaire. Make it a goal to get a thousand dollars set aside for emergency needs like repairs to home or car or your own body. Do this one goal and you will be in the top 20% of the population of America. It is only the top 20% that have more than a thousand dollars set aside. Make that a first step and then you will know you have the will and the power to accomplish even more toward your own net worth.

Is Your Self Worth Taking you Where You Want to Go

The values that you hold inside your self is what define your self worth for where you are right now. Are those closely held values helping to carry you to your future that you truly want for yourself.. Sometimes those values are never consciously discussed or even considered quietly in your own mind.

When you are trying to increase your net worth, your self worth needs to be in balance with the stated goals you have for your net worth. Do you not even have stated goals? Holy Moly that is a “whole ‘nother blog entry” for another tme.. For today it is a great time to take stock in what your valises of self worth truly are.

Here are some examples to test where your own self worth is at today. Then as we go along in this mini-series we will define and more clearly focus how the values of self worth can line up to become the turbocharged engine that takes you to an amazing net worth.

Do you believe in yourself?

Really? When you do believe in yourself than you are on time for appointments, commitments and deadlines.. If you have taken on too much and you are having trouble keeping the commitments, this should tell you that you are trying to do too much n the same time line that we have all been given: 24 hours. Taking on too much is an indication you feel a need to prove yourself to others. Improve your self worth by focusing on the most important and doing those goals excellently.

Are you a disciplined person?

For me this reflects to my weight battle. We are made to be in God’s image. It is my opinion that God don’t make no junk. But the habits and choices I have made are what has produced this overweight frame. And my thinking is that God would have us to be strong in heart, strong in spirit, and strong in body.

Discipline IS Work but soooo worth it

If your choices and habits have taken you to the same place, then you understand my current choice to become a more disciplined person. Making choices and keeping commitments that matter go across so many areas of each of our lives.

Are you a good steward?

In the world of value and worth there is a law of abundance that works in your life whether you want it or not work or not. In nature when metal is cared for it gleams and radiates its value. Care not for it and it rusts and tarnishes. Give attention to finished wood and it seems to live and breathe and give by serving you as the desk or dresser that it was designed to be. Care not for it and it dries and cracks and breaks simply from poor attention. Look around your own space. If it is cluttered and unkempt then increasing your net worth this set of values will be very difficult.

Numerous well written books and guides offer lists and lists of things to improve in your life to increase your net worth. But these three values:

 Belief

Discipline

Stewardship

THESE ARE THE CORE!      I need, we all need to get these right first before moving on to the network of details that color our lives. Are there struggles you are having in getting your net worth going?  Tell me what you believe for your own life.
